Student Receives Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy Grant for His Dissertation Project

The Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy has awarded a grant to fourth year PhD student Andrew Breck for his dissertation project at NYU Wagner entitled "The Effect of Participation in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program on Health and Healthcare Expenditure."

Mr. Breck is also an NIH-funded TL1 Predoctoral Scholar in Translational Research at the NYU School of Medicine.

In receiving the Horowitz Foundation grant, he was one of 20 recipients selected from a nationwide pool of more than 670 highly competitive candidates —a significant achievement.

Mr. Breck earned a Master of Public Administration degree from NYU Wagner and completed his BA with Honors at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As a master's student, Andrew worked as a research assistant at the Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Planning (a joint initiative of NYU Wagner and the School of Law) and for NYU's Sustainability Task Force, where he developed the university's first comprehensive Environmental Assessment. Before beginning his master's education he managed a Food Stamp access campaign for FoodChange, a nutrition education and economic empowerment organization in NYC.

Congratulations!
