Lutheran Medical Center
The residency at Lutheran afforded an opportunity to work with senior-level management spanning across many areas of operations and regulatory affairs. The resident began the curriculum by engaging in various initiatives related to length of stay, from improving turnaround time for nurse collectibles to piloting a program to schedule discharges on a unit. The resident also worked on daily performance management tasks involving updating report cards and developing new quality indicators. Another important project that the resident was an integral part of was an application for a Quality Award sponsored by the Healthcare Association of New York State. The resident was also very involved in the ongoing patient satisfaction initiative at Lutheran. This project involved assembling tracking boards using Gallup Poll patient satisfaction data as well as being a part of a multidisciplinary team focused on improving overall satisfaction across the institution.
