Professor Vall Castelló is an applied economist, with specialized in health and labor economics. In her research projects, she has worked with large administrative datasets and existing survey data at the Spanish and European levels and she has also designed and run more specific surveys tailored to a particular group of the population.
Her current research concentrates on the impact of a number of policies introduced in the health system and the labor market on several health and population outcomes, with a specific emphasis on the gender dimension. In parallel, she is also working on the evaluation of changes that can be introduced in the structure of the public health care system to enhance the efficiency and patient satisfaction levels. In the past, she has studied the effects of labor promotion measures for disabled workers and other sub-groups of the population such as the elderly and women.
As researcher, she has participated in several European projects at the University of Cambridge, UPF and UB and has been the Principal Investigator for two H2020 projects on immigration, health and labor market as well as several other national projects.
She has been awarded several prestigious fellowships such as the ICREA academia, a Marie Curie Pre-doctoral Fellowship, a Fulbright-Schuman grant as well as the Robert Solow Postdoctoral Fellowship. She has spent research visiting periods at the NBER, McGill University, University of Essex, Toulouse School of Economics and at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
