PAPER/DISSERTATION: “Schools and beyond: Examining the Role of Policy and Context for Special Populations ”

S. Sana Fatima completed her PhD in Public Policy at NYU Wagner's Graduate School of Public Service. There, she studied how policy deferentially affects the educational experiences of special populations. Her dissertation examines the impact of Fair Student Funding Reform for students with disabilities in NYC, the effects of gentrification on educational outcomes for low income students, and   the role of school context in examining racial disproportionality  in special education. Sana received a 4-year IES-Predoctoral Interdisciplinary Research Training Fellowship (IES-PIRT) in 2016 and is a Graduate Research Fellow at the Center for Practice and Research at the Intersection of Information, Society, and Methodology (PRIISM). Prior to joining NYU, she worked as a researcher at the John J. Heldrich Center for Labor and Workforce Development (Rutgers University), as an analyst at Abt Associates Inc. and as an Economic and Community Development Research Assistant at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Economics from New York University (NYU). Her advisor and research mentor was Leanna Stiefel.
