Prospective Capstone clients respond to a request for proposals (RFP) in the spring by submitting their applications through our online portal. All proposals are vetted by Wagner administration and viable projects are offered to Capstone faculty for comment and selection.
How do I Add/Drop a course after the Albert period is closed?
After the Add/Drop deadline on Albert, students may not add or withdraw from a course via Albert.
Can I take more than five years to complete the program?
Wagner students are required to complete all degree requirements within the specified time of initial enrollment (masters students within five years; doctoral students within seven years).
How do I qualify for half-time equivalency and what is the process for having it added to my record?
The University defines "full time" as taking 12 or more credits in one semester and "half time" as taking 6 or more credits in one semester. A student's enrollment status has potential implications for financial aid, particularly as it pertains to Federal student loans.
How do I decide which section of Capstone I should enroll in?
Students are randomly assigned to a Capstone section based on their program and specialization.
Is it possible to go from a full-time student to a part-time student?
Part-time vs. full-time status is determined by the number of credits you register for each semester. There isn't anything special you need to do to go from one status to another - taking 12 or more credits is considered full-time, taking fewer than 12 credits is considered part-time.
I work full-time at a position that was not deemed relevant for PER. How can I fulfill this requirement?
We generally recommend that students in your position either seek out stretch assignments at work or do something similar.
How do I get off a course waitlist?
Courses occasionally have waitlists. If you place yourself on a waitlist, remember that the next eligible person on waitlist is automatically enrolled when a space opens up in the course.
How are individuals and groups graded in the Capstone Program?
Students are graded on both the products they deliver to their clients and evidence of progressive learning throughout the course. Grades account for students' participation in both class activities and team work and their ability to act on peer and faculty feedback.
How do I maintain matriculation?
A degree can only be awarded to a student who has been continuously matriculated for each fall and spring term since entering the program.
How do I change my specialization?
MPA and MUP students are required to choose their specialization during the semester in which they complete their 12th credit. For full-time students, this is their first semester and for part-time students, it is usually their second semester.

Is it possible to switch from part-time to full-time enrollment?
Yes! You may change your enrollment status from full-time to part-time, or vice versa, without notifying the University.
Are financial resources available to Capstone groups?
Each Capstone team will be reimbursed up to $500 for expenses such as reproduction, binding, local travel, and/or preparation of Capstone documents and display materials.
I missed the Capstone Information Session. What do I do now?

I am required to complete PER. How do I find an internship that is relevant? How do I know whether the internship will qualify?
In order to fulfill the PER, a position must be directly relevant to your career goals as well as your degree program and/or specialization.
How can I check my progress toward graduation?
Do language courses count towards a Wagner degree?
Language courses cannot count towards a Wagner MPA or MUP degree.
Can I start Capstone in the spring semester?
Capstone is a 3-credit course that occurs only over the fall-spring academic year. Students enroll in 1.5 credits in the fall first, and 1.5 credits in the spring.

When do Student Services Program Advisors hold walk-in hours?
Student Services Program Advisors offer walk-in hours for current students during the fall and spring terms when classes are in session. These hours are intended for quick, general advising questions and are posted on the Adv
