Students must join the Bachelor’s-Master’s track while they are still matriculated in their undergraduate program. They must then formally apply to NYU Wagner during their senior year by 11:59 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time on the Early Action Priority Deadline.

  1. Apply during the Spring or Fall intake.
  2. Submit an application to either the Master of Public Administration (MPA)  or Master of Urban Planning (MUP) program for full-time or part-time study, and complete all requirements listed in the application checklist above. Note: If you are applying to the Georgina & Charlotte Bloomberg Fellowship, you must apply during the Fall intake and select full-time enrollment to access the fellowship prompts and essays.
  3. Indicate your interest in the Bachelor’s-Master’s Track by selecting “Yes” under the Dual Degree section on the Program Information page. Then, select the specific Bachelor’s-Master’s Track you are applying to in the following question.
  4. Complete the required 1-minute video essay.

NYU Wagner, in partnership with several NYU undergraduate divisions, offers accelerated Bachelor’s-Master’s tracks for students to earn a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Public Administration or Master of Urban Planning in less time than it would take to earn both degrees separately. Students may complete a maximum of 21 of the 45 credits required for the graduate degree while they are still undergraduates. Students must earn a grade of B or better in each relevant course in order for the credits to give them advanced standing for the MPA or the MUP.

The following NYU schools partner with Wagner to offer Bachelor’s-Master’s tracks for their undergraduate students:

College of Arts and Sciences

The BA-MPA and BA-MUP tracks are open to students in approved majors at the CAS. Students must submit the pre-application to join the track.

Gallatin School of Individualized Study

The BA-MPA and BA-MUP tracks are open to all students at Gallatin. Students must submit the pre-application to join the track.

Global Liberal Studies

The BA-MPA and BA-MUP tracks are open to all students at GLS. Students must submit the pre-application to join the track.

NYU Abu Dhabi

The BA-MPA track is open to students in Economics, Political Science, or Social Research and Public Policy majors at NYU Abu Dhabi. Students must speak with an NYUAD advisor to be approved for the track.

Tandon School of Engineering

The BS-MUP track is open to students in the Civil Engineering major at Tandon. Students must speak with their Tandon advisor to be approved for the track.

BA-MPA BA-MUP, and BS-MUP applicants may be asked to participate in an interview to help the Office of Admissions better understand a student’s candidacy. These interviews are not optional and are held early- to mid- February for Fall entry candidates.

Students have the option of deferring matriculation for up to 2 years after they complete their bachelor’s degree in order to gain experience in the field while maintaining credits completed towards the MPA or MUP from their undergraduate studies. In some cases, Wagner Admissions may require a one-year mandatory deferral for students from the track to gain professional experience in a public service field before beginning the MPA or MUP program.
