Before and during the Great Recession, the affluent built wealth through branch banks and checking accounts, while the working poor were disproportionately reliant on "fringe" financial services like check cashing outlets. In his research, Professor Faber explores the link between widening inequalities and the expansion of check cashing outlets during this difficult period.
