Assistance to Achieve Your Goals

One of the key aspects of the graduate school experience is the advisement process in which faculty and staff assist students in the development of a plan of study that helps them achieve their academic and career goals. NYU Wagner has several sources of advisement for students, including student and program services administrators, faculty advisors and the Office of Career Services.

Administrators

Administrators from the Student and Program Services team are the first point of contact for students seeking assistance in these areas listed below.

  • Selecting and registering for courses
  • Waiving core courses
  • Tutoring
  • Addressing concerns about academic progress
  • Changing specializations, or advisers
  • Course audits
  • Resolving "incomplete" grades
  • Ensuring that all degree requirements are being met

Administrators hold walk-in hours during the fall and spring semesters. Appointments outside of walk-in hours can be made throughout the year

The last day of Spring 2012 walk-in hours will be May 14.

Fall 2012 walk-in hours will resume the week of September 10.

Faculty Advisors

A faculty member is assigned to each student admitted to the Wagner School. Faculty advisors speak with students about career objectives and about how students can shape their programs of study at the Wagner School to meet these objectives. Faculty advisers help students select their elective courses in concentrated areas and in line with professional aspirations. Faculty are often able to identify specific courses that match students' interests and goals. Students should schedule appointments with their faculty advisors and are encouraged to seek out advice from all faculty and staff.

Career Services

Students are also encouraged to consult the Office of Career Services (OCS) for career advisement. OCS assists Wagner students and alumni to develop and implement career strategies, plans, and decisions. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the many services offered through Wagner's OCS, including walk-in hours and one-on-one advisement, the Career Directory, Wag-Net, and a variety of events.
