Dean's Diversity Statement
In this current climate of uncertainty and concern, I have never been more proud of NYU Wagner’s welcoming and embracing community. To those of you considering studying at NYU Wagner, I want to remind you of our deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a school of public service, we embody these values in two distinct ways.
First, Wagner is a community that prizes difference. We gain strength from the diversity of nationalities, viewpoints, backgrounds, and identities represented among us. We encourage respectful debate and openness of thought in and outside of our classrooms. Second, because of the nature of public service work, we must provide our students with skills so they can effectively work with diverse organizations and communities. Only if they have a deep understanding of the issues, contexts, and frameworks around diversity will they be effective public service leaders.
It is for those reasons that we hold our values so strongly: it’s critical for the school, and it’s critical for the cities and communities we aim to serve.
NYU President Andy Hamilton recently reiterated the University’s commitment to support the free movement of ideas and people in pursuit of their academic work, and NYU Wagner wholly supports this message.
For those who are considering applying to NYU Wagner, know that these beliefs are fundamental to our existence and our mission, and that we will take every step available to us to protect all members of this community.
Please take some time to learn more about our programs, or reach out to our Admissions Team if you have any questions.
Best,
Dean and Professor of Public Service
