IDBEA Resources

Initiatives at NYU Wagner

We offer numerous opportunities for the NYU Wagner community to engage in and support IDBEA initiatives.

Wagner Diversity Council (WDC)

As a special committee of the Wagner Student Association, WDC is committed to intentional discourse, practice, and action around diversity and inclusion in all its facets within our institutional, academic, and social community.

Members of WDC meet monthly to discuss ongoing projects and priorities; new members are always welcome! Sign up for our newsletter at http://eepurl.com/hGUIg9 or follow us on Instagram @wagnerdiversitycouncil.

Student Groups

Student-run and responsive to the needs and interests of their members, student groups provide a chance to collaborate around a shared goal, whether it's to address issues of identity and diversity in the public service community, dive deep into a policy issue, or network with professionals in the field they're exploring. Groups facilitate panel discussions, seminars, academic talks, community outreach projects, and a range of other activities that enrich the NYU Wagner experience.

Who To Go To For What

The New York University Bias Response Line provides a mechanism through which members of our community can share or report experiences and concerns of bias, discrimination, or harassing behavior that may occur within our community.

If you are unsure whether to use the Bias Response Line, local Wagner staff can assist in managing your IDBEA-related concerns:

Initiatives at NYU

In New York and on its campuses and locations throughout the world, NYU is committed to:

  • Fostering intellectual inquiry, research, and artistic practices that respectfully and rigorously take account of a wide range of opinions, perspectives, and experiences.

  • Promoting an inclusive community in which diversity is valued and every member feels they have a rightful place, is welcome and respected, and is supported in their endeavors.

  • Developing and supporting programs and policies that measurably improve NYU's record of attracting and retaining students, as well as hiring and promoting faculty, administrators, and staff from historically underrepresented communities.

  • Building structures that promote inclusiveness and equity for all members of the NYU community, especially our colleagues from marginalized groups.

Being @ NYU

As part of its efforts to embrace diversity and promote a culture of inclusion, the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Task Force agreed that rigorous assessments of campus climate should occur. It therefore recommended that NYU conduct a campus climate assessment to evaluate the living, learning, and working environment at NYU.

A new initiative that will build upon the lessons learned from initiatives such as Being@NYU to strengthen our community. NYU - BeTogether will focus on a) implementation and action steps on themes from Being@NYU to address climate DEI issues and disparities; b) enhance programmatic, training, pedagogical, and learning opportunities, as well as examine and execute best practices for students, faculty, and staff, stemming from what we have learned from the pandemic and, in particular, the disparate impact on specific communities; and, c) forge innovative pathways to improve equity and address legacies of inequality that are coupled with practices that sustain locally and globally connected inclusive communities, including how we leverage alumni and external partners.

Anti-Racism Education, Programs, and Resources

Anti-racism work requires sustained, proactive education and engagement as well as systemic, intentional efforts at micro- and macro-levels. Anti-racism work also requires individuals to take responsibility for their own learning and avoid placing the responsibility for that education on already marginalized and disenfranchised groups, including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). Find more information about selected programs, education, and resources focused on anti-racism that are available to the NYU community.

Anti-Racism Education Resources

NYU Office of Global Inclusion compiled an anti-racism education resource list (PDF: 114 kB) for community members to begin and continue their learning through articles, podcasts, books, guides, and other resources. This is a working document that we will continue to develop over time. If you have any recommendations of texts to add to this list, you can email globalinclusion@nyu.edu.
