What were your takeaways from this conference/case competition?
As my first academic conference, APHA was a very eye-opening experience. From the research done by fellow researchers in Public Health to other expo exhibitors, I was able to learn about what is currently being researched and also learn about different ways I could be involved in research. This also gave me the chance to network with other academics and learn about PhD programs in the future.
How will your participation in this conference/case competition support your professional development?
Through my participation, I was able to present my current research study. I was also given the opportunity to learn on how to improve my research in the future. While I was given a lot of positive feedback, I was also told how to improve my findings poster and present them in a more comprehensive way. I was additionally able to network with other professionals in my field.
What are some next steps or action items this conference/case competition inspired?
I hope to further pursue research and collaborate with others I've met at the conference. I also felt extremely inspired to continue doing what I am doing and pursue a PhD. Meeting other academics made me feel very fuelled for research and motivated me to work harder towards my goals. I will continue writing the paper that I presented and hopefully have it published soon.
What are some tips or best practices that you would like to share with other Wagner students who attend a conference/case competition?
I think it would be best to attend more than one day at a conference. Make sure to write down all the talks and posters you want to see beforehand especially for bigger conferences. Come prepared with a notebook and business cards for maximal networking opportunities!
